From festival commercials for Lil Wayne to Surf Short films for Volcom Stone, Toonz has been creating animations that capture the essence of hip hop and surf culture for two decades. Artist Andrew Miller resides on the North Shore of Oahu creating art for Third Stone Surfboards and The Waialua Surf Shop as well as working with artist Trouble Andrew and various other commissions. As an artist in Hawaii, Toonz’ work adds greatly to the surf community and hip hop art sphere on the mainland. Toonz’ work is humorous and honest. It comes in many forms, from 15 foot canvas banners to 8 part animations to the old couch you put on the side of the road last week. Toonz is quiet and fast in his creating, quick to respond to his experience with moving artwork whether it be a headlining news report or a fleeting witty phrase someone in the surf shop blurted out. Drew’s work speaks for others, and gives words or images to an experience or subject in a way that translates life honestly.
